The editors of Premi
er Guitar offer up some unsolicited opinions about g ui tars and six-string life.
ON
Young kids/old riffs– Mosey on down to the local guitar store on a Saturday afternoon and
check out the surprisingly young kids rocking convincing Cream, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin licks.
What a great place to start.
OFF
concert ticket prices– As the Police reunion tour is illustrating, ticket prices don’t show any
sign of letting up. Current pricing makes anything short of Jimi Hendrix walking out from behind the
backline feel like a massive letdown.
STANDBY
Sex pistols 30th anniversary reunion– To commemorate three decades since the release
of “Never Mind the Bullocks,” the Pistols are doing a one-off reunion gig at London’s Brixton Academy
on November 8th. Do the old boys still have it?
ON
tube amps– No, we’re not being that lazy and, yes, we are aware that tube amps have been
around since day one, but never before in the variety of flavors we have now, thanks to the proliferation of smaller, boutique makers. Big ups to the little guys!
OFF
inexpensive cool guitars– Sure, there are still a few holdouts like Eastwood, St. Blues and
Tokai, but what happened to all of the other free-thinking, budget guitar makers out there? Strat copies? We don’t need no more stinking Strat copies!
