G EARS EARCHGALLERY
Childhood Memories
by James Egolf
In 1981, I was 15 and very proud of my new-to-me, slightly used Les Paul Deluxe. Shortly after
it was procured, my mom’s decidedly hot friend
came into town for a visit – she had played
bass in an all-girl band in the late sixties,
enjoying some regional success until breaking up when the lead singer left. Wanting to
impress her, I presented my coveted Lester
to her with an awkward, pimply swagger. Her
response haunts me to this day: “Oh. That’s
neat. But everybody in my band played Vox.”
While not responding like I envisioned, she
did turn me on to a world of guitars I may not
have otherwise appreciated. Sure, anybody
can dig a beat-up blackguard Tele, but it
takes a real guitar lover to grok a Hallmark
Sweptwing, red-sparkle Goya, Vox Mk VI or
Ampeg Dan Armstrong.
While hot blond bassists aren’t plentiful
on Gear Search, cool guitars, amps and effects
abound. To see these guitars and over 35,000
other pieces of cool gear, browse on over to

Guitars for posting these great guitars on
Gear Search.
