beginnings
In 1951, nuclear bombs were being tested in the Nevada
desert, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were on trial for
espionage, President Harry S. Truman fired General
MacArthur and A Streetcar Named Desire was a huge
hit at the box office. It was also the first year that
Fender’s new solidbody electric was available with the
“Telecaster” designation.
In 1952, England’s last King, George VI, died, the B-
52 Stratofortress went into service, the first successful
hydrogen bomb detonation occurred, John Cage’s 4’ 33”
premiered and Gibson released the Les Paul model electric guitar, their first solidbody.
Gear Search is proud to have these two “firsts” currently
listed, and with over 30,000 guitars, amps and effects
available, you’ll be sure to find your first or sell your own
at premierguitar.com/gear.
We would like to thank 100 Percent Vintage Auctions for
posting these and other instruments available on Gear Search.
