According to shipping records, Gibson shipped
1800 natural finish Explorers in 1976 and only
67 white finish Explorers. This white Explorer’s
pot codes date it to that year, putting it in
very exclusive company. In 1976, Gibson also
offered gold hardware as an option on the
Explorers, which this example has.
The 1976 Explorer is a hard to find guitar. It
has been used extensively by U2’s the Edge;
Rumor has it that he even has a standing order
with vintage dealers—when one comes in
stock, he gets it. This rare white model, however, is staying put in its owner’s care.
