Pedal maker Bob Sweet passed away
October 24 after a nearly year-long battle
with cancer. He is survived by his wife,
Barbara. Bob had learned last December
that he had a cancerous tumor in his neck
and has been fighting until the battle ended
October 24, 2008.
During Bob’s
treatment, the online
guitar community ral-
lied, donating items for
auction to help offset
his medical expenses.
The support appears
to be continuing after
his death; on the Music Toyz forum that first
launched efforts to help Bob, pedal mak-
ers like John Cusack, Groove King and BMF
Effects have proposed the idea of collectively
building Sweet’s pedals to keep the company
on its feet.

Bob Sweet’s line, Sweet Sound Electronics,
is known throughout the music community
for simple designs, high quality construction and a truly “sweet” sound. His hard
work, kindness and love of music resonated
throughout the music world. After his passing, even acquaintances who had never met
him in person, said they felt like they had
lost a close friend.
Even through the tough times, Bob kept
making pedals to both keep his sanity and to
keep medical bills paid. According to George
of Pedalworx, Bob’s wife Barbara says that
she, along with Bob’s brother, will keep
Sweet Sound going. Barbara aided Bob in
building pedals in the last years of his life.
Bob, who had himself donated gear in the
past to help others in need, kept Music Toyz
forum members updated with status posts
during his treatment. It was through these
forums that he expressed his deep gratitude,
saying “I cannot find the words that will relay
the extent of my feelings of what the online
community is doing for me… Nothing can
come remotely close to show my appreciation for what you all are doing.”
