GUITAR OF THE MONTH
1962
WURLITZER
Gemini
Many people are unaware that Wurlitzer made
guitars—including futuristic, cartoon guitars
that look like they’d be in Elroy Jetson’s personal collection. According to the Blue Book of
Electric Guitars (11th Edition), Wurlitzer Guitars
were made in Neodesha, Kansas from 1965 until
the ‘70s, when the company began to import
them from Italy. This guitar’s serial number is
410741; under the neck on the body there is a
date stamp of 1962, so we may have a case for
Mr. Fjestad.
Loaded with twenty-first century features like true
stereo, tremolo bridge, bound fretboard, tone
switches (jazz or rock) and a pickup blender, the
’ 62 Gemini has futuristic retro-cool to burn.
From the collection of Bill Nix
and Bill Nix, Jr, Marion, Iowa.
