iPhones Becoming Even More
Useful for Guitarists
Five years ago, saying that your cell phone
would be one of the most useful tools in your
music career would’ve seemed ridiculous. But
as Apple’s App Store filled up with guitar-centric applications, that notion became reality.
We looked at ten useful apps in our January ’09
issue, “ 10 Best iPhone Apps for Guitarists,” and
since then even more tools have been released.
For all of the many guitar-related apps
released, there’s a large contingent of guitarists
downloading them. Planet Waves’ Chordmaster
application, which ports their Chordmaster
handheld chord library to the iPhone, reached
#10 most downloaded application in the App
Store. The company has also unveiled a special
1/4” to 1/8” plug cable that is compatible with
the iPhone’s headphone jack.
In addition, the advent of credit card processing apps, like Innerfence’s Credit Card
Terminal, means bands and solo artists
can sell merchandise at shows with credit
transactions, while newly released recording
applications each promise a more professional recording quality than the next.
With rumors of Apple developing a less
expensive “iPhone Lite” and negotiating
with Verizon for distribution, plus millions
of applications in development, it looks as
though the iPhone will continue to revolutionize the trade of guitar playing.
SUBMISSIONS WANTED!
We’re looking for guitarists funnier than
we are. We’re tired of the same old
jokes [How do you get a guitarist to play
slower? Put sheet music in front of him].
We want to see what you’ve got. If you
have a funny joke or cartoon you’d like
to see in Premier Guitar, send it to

or mail it in to:
