GUITAR OF THE MONTH
1978 Rickenbacker 4001
Pictured is a gorgeous, well-worn 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 bass. The
classic neck-through construction consisting of maple combined with a
walnut “skunk stripe” evokes images of Motorhead’s iconic bassist and
frontman, Mr. Lemmy Kilmister. The bass was originally purchased from
an anonymous seller, and has played many a punk rock show since being
in its current owner’s possession. Still intact is the original “Ric-O-Sound”
dual output wiring, which was conceived by Rickenbacker to offer more
tonal versatility through two amplifier setups, rather than implementing
unneeded additions to the instrument’s internal circuit.
