spider” was one observation from classmates)
and I could never play all the notes that I was
supposed to play at tempo.
The 2nd was Joe Diorio’s “Traditional Solo”
for “Blue Bossa” off his Fusion Guitar book.
Same thing—I can’t report for sure that it in
fact helped my playing.
It’s probably because I didn’t study either
solo deeply enough.
I learned most of Pat Metheny’s solo in
“Goin’ Ahead” from the 80/81 album by
ear—that’s easy because most of it is in the
D major scale. Some of my phrasing is influenced by what I picked up from this solo.
That’s it—two full length solos, and most of
a third. I’m still working on learning others—
got a Holdsworth book to work on, plus I still
need to order Joe Pass Jazz Lines.

The “I Scored a Great Tube Amp for Under $500” Thread
Tubebender: I see so many boutique,
high priced and insane looking amps here.
This thread is for all the average-joes who
find deals and rock with them.
What’s your best tube amp score for $500
and under?
RoCkIn: Id say mine is my Peavey Classic
50/410 for $300 on Craigslist.
birv2: Got my Pro Jr off ebay for around
$225 a couple of years ago. Just swapped
the stock speaker out for a Ragin Cajun, and
the tubes for JJ’s. However, it didn’t sound
bad stock, just better now.
Very loud amp and nice juicy tones. I’d like to
have a vintage DR, but until then, this will do.
Norjef:
Yamaha/Soldano T100 combo $400
Yamaha/Soldano T100 head $300
Sundown 100 combo w/EV $300
2 different Egnater/Rocktron TOL 50 $500
(and 600)
With 2 kids in college, I LOVE and need these
undervalued scores, why I need ‘em ALL is
none of your business (I tried that with my
wife—didn’t work)
boogieplaya: Like new JCM2000 DSL50
head. $450. (i LOVE this amp)
1986 JCM800 2204 $500. Ditto.
rockon1: Too many to list IMO.
Unfortunately thats why I started a “I’m ready
to sell a lot” thread! lol! Recently I purchased
a Peavey Ultra Plus head for a ridiculous
299$! 120/60 watts, three channels that
above all sounds great to me. Bob
Frankee: Found by my wife....being used
in an antique-store display. NOS tubes.....
close to mint. $80.00
Found in the back of a restaurant in Monterey
Park, CA........FREE
SLBlues: I’ll see your $300.oo for a PV
C50 4x10 and Raise/Lower it to an amazing $125.00 for my PV C50 4X10 also on
Craigslist. It did need a new strap, but otherwise was in excellent condition.
mprvise: Last year I scored an all original
(including tubes) 1965 Ampeg Reverberocket
II that had been in a closet since 1969
- $350.00.
croto5000: it’s threads like this that
force me to religiously check craigslist on a
daily basis
Texsunburst59: I live in an area
where people are FRIKIN’ LAZY and don’t
want to do their homework on stuff being
pawned. I’ve score some AMAZING stuff in
the last few years even with E-bay and all.
I RELIGIOUSLY check all the pawnshops
for deals EVERYDAY and usually score
something KILLER every few months. I’m
an outside salesman and drive about 100
miles a day. The gas gets paid for so it
does not cost me anything to hit just most
of the pawnshops in my area in about
every 2 days.
EdMan57: Mine include a mint Bedrock
1600 50 watt head for $400,an extra clean
Bedrock 621 combo for $330,a clean
Randall Pro-Tube 1000 combo for $240
and more recently a new Laney LC15-110
for $329.
markw1980: I have $300 in my ‘ 64
Princeton. I bought a DRRI a few years ago
for $350. I was given a silverface Princeton
Reverb a few years ago. I should have kept
that one! Oh, well, my ‘ 64 is pretty awesome! Oh, and my Smokey was $20.
