Spinal Tap Takes Criticism Well – After our lukewarm review of their Tonight Show
appearance, Spinal Tap brought their “A” game to The Daily Show.
Guitar Edge Gets Made Over – After checking out the new format of Guitar Edge
magazine and GuitarEdge.com, we’re proud to welcome them to the PG family.

Beautiful Parks, Beautiful Guitars – Ken Burns’ new PBS mini-series, The National Parks:
America’s Best Idea, once again features a beautiful soundtrack full of terrific musicians playing acoustic
instruments, including Al Petteway and Amy White, Peter Ostroushko, and Jay Unger and Molly Mason.
Gibson’s Zoot Suit Guitars – We find the idea of constructing a guitar body from
compressed birch laminate pieces… interesting. We find the color combinations… um…
No Respect – Merriam-Webster added frenemies and staycation to the new dictionary,
but passed on guitarsenal, shredtastic and toneriffic.
EVH Has Hand Surgery – Eddie was suffering from arthritis, a bone spur, twisted tendon
and cyst that locked up the pinky and thumb of his left hand. He told Rolling Stone that his hand
will feel like he’s “ 18 again” when healed. We hope so.
Ozzy Trading Zakk for John 5? – The internet has been abuzz with reports that Ozzy is
replacing Zakk Wylde—though Wylde says “everything’s cool.” The prevailing stories seem
to be that John 5 will be playing on Ozzy’s upcoming album.

What a fantastic article! I am thrilled to see this movement getting more
attention. The passion these musician/artists have for CBG is extraordinary. I feel privileged to have gotten to know Shane, Bill, John, and
Lenny as a cigar box supplier. They have brought a lost art back to life,
and have given creative people yet another way to create, and personalize their craft. Keep up the good work guys. Spread the fun!

Yah, wth? Why didn’t you guys
make an hour long demo in a
TV studio and use 100 different
guitars/cabs and have EVH do
the demo? Slackers!!!

Great article. I’ve been transcribing for over twenty years,
and try to convince my students that it’s a far better option
than trusting “tab-sights”. It’s also an opportunity for them to
become more comfortable with standard notation, and more
importantly REALLY learning about rhythm. A hard sell these
days, but it’s definitely worth it for those willing to slug it out.

Check out Russ’s original band, The Thornbirds (a.k.a. The Ducks). Their
two albums are honestly some of my favorite tunes in the last 5 years.

update from BILLY: I’ve significantly improved my in-ears
guitar sound by placing a D- 91 on the deck directly in front
of my Marshall cab...the sweet spot is 4-5 feet. I put this
on a separate channel and blend it with the direct...same
approach I’d take in the studio. It gives me a much truer
picture of the tone coming from the amp.
