Slash and Marshall Announce
Plans for Appetite Amp at NAMM
Anaheim, CA – In one of NAMM’s most anticipated unveilings, Slash and Marshall announced
the development of the AFD100 amp, based
on the modified Marshall he used on Guns N’
Roses’ 1987 classic Appetite for Destruction.
Slash announces the AFD100 at a 12: 15 press conference
on Saturday, January 16.
Marshall has launched a special site to detail
the development of the amp through blog
posts, photos and videos. At press time, the
site featured a video of the announcement, a
video overview of the project, and a video on
the initial amp investigation.
The Appetite for Destruction amp has been
shrouded in mystery for decades. During
the announcement, Slash cleared the air,
officially identifying the amp as a modified
early-’70s 100-watt Marshall JCM2203 that
he rented from Studio Instrument Rentals
(S.I.R.) in Los Angeles.
Marshall hopes to release the amp this summer.

Musicians Come Together at NAMM
for Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng
Fullerton, CA – On Saturday, January 16, a
benefit concert was held for Chi Cheng, bassist for the Deftones who has been in a “
minimally conscious” state since a November
2008 car accident. The event was held at the
Slidebar in Fullerton, CA.
Admission to the show was free, but donations
were welcome. More than 1500 people packed
the Slidebar, and hundreds more had to be
turned away as the venue reached capacity.
Scheduled performers included members of the
Deftones, Korn, P.O.D., and more. The night
also held some surprises, as NAMM attendees
Slash and Steven Adler made appearances.
The fundraising effort will continue through
February and March, as an auction will be held
from February 15 to March 15 on onelovefor-
chi.com. The auction was originally scheduled
to be a silent auction at the benefit concert,
but it had to be pushed back as the number of
unique items and memorabilia kept growing.
Among the unique items for auction are a Daisy
Rock guitar that was played and signed by the
performers at the event, an Ampeg amp that
will be autographed by musicians supporting
Chi, ESP guitars, a Gold record for the Misson:
Impossible II soundtrack donated by Chris
Cornell, and a pair of boots signed by Prince.
