Don Morris built quite a buzz more than a decade ago with his
Electroplex Rocket 50 and 100 models. Now, after an interim stint at
Yamaha, he’s back with several new versions of the Rocket, including
the 6V6-powered 22. Voiced in conjunction with Trev Wilkinson, it
offers two channels of rich, vintage-Fender tones and is switchable
from 22 to 12 watts. Channel 1 controls include: Volume, Treble, Mid,
and Bass, while Channel 2 offers Gain, Volume, Treble, Mid, and Bass.
Universal controls are Presence and Reverb.
Hanging out with the ever-cheeky Richard Goodsell is always fun, but
it’s even better when he’s got a great new amp. He had a couple new
models at the show, including the Valpreaux—a 21-watt combo that
pays homage to 1960s Valco and Supro. It uses a cathode-biased 6973
power tube for fat, greasy tone that’s different than Goodsell’s primarily
