Blues Guitarist Phillip Walker
Dies at 73
Palm Springs, CA – Blues guitarist and singer
Phillip Walker died on July 22 of heart failure.
He was 73 years old.
Walker’s 50-plus year career included numerous albums with zydeco musician Clifton
Chenier, the Phillip Walker Blues Band, and
solo albums. Touring with Chenier led to backing performers like Etta James, Jimmy Reed,
Little Richard, and Lowell Fulson. Walker spent
the past 50 years touring and recording, earning a Blues Music Award in 1999 for the album
Lone Star Shootout, a collaboration with
Lonnie Brooks and Long John Hunter.

Archtop Guitar Seminar

and 25-26. Both seminars will cover the same
topics. They will be led by Bob Benedetto, who
has been crafting archtop guitars since 1968.
The two-day seminar will include lectures and
demonstrations on a variety of topics including:
wood selection, carving and graduating the
top and back, tap tuning, design and placement of soundholes, parallel and X-braces,
bending the sides, making and fitting the neck,
plastic and wood binding, bridge and tailpiece
design, finishing options, and setup.
All participants are encouraged to take pho-
tos and ask questions, however, no video
will be allowed. The cost for the workshop
