No one delved into the hard-hitting tragedy of
uveitis like we did, and no one brought you
page after page of tantalizing pictures backed
by in-depth specs like we did. That’s the kind
of journalism we strive for, and we hope all
our Premier Guitar readers/viewers will help
us stay abreast of any similarly hard-hitting
guitar-related stories in the future.
The Empty Case Technique
Loved the article on smuggling gear
through the watchful eyes of the significant
other [“How to Hide New Gear from Your
Significant Other,” Tuning Up, February
2011]. Before I tied the knot, a good mate
took me aside and shared with me his
sleight-of-hand technique:
Step 1: Buy another nice case to protect
your current precious guitars.
Step 2: When questioned, point out that
it is just a new case that is meant
to protect your beloved possessions.
And IT IS EMPTY.
Step 3: After a week or so, buy the
guitar that will fit in the case.
Step 4: If questioned on the new purchase,
deny all allegations and claim
that it was always there.
Pinkburst Project Gets Personal
I have uveitis and the comments about
it not being researched [“The Pinkburst
Project,” February 2011] are true. I’ve
lost most of my eyesight through the last
10 years. I had no insurance [and] went
completely broke. A big problem is most
eye doctors know little about it but won’t
refer you somewhere else, leading to terrible
care for most of us. I can’t see Dr. Foster in
Boston because it’s very expensive. I’m from
Long Island and the first show I ever saw
was Twisted Sister at the 2001 roller rink in
maybe 1982. Thanks, Jay Jay, you’re literally
the ONLY person talking about this excruciatingly painful and debilitating disease.
Note to musicians: Don’t be so scared to
play with the blind guy—they work harder.
They have to. I am not the liability, your
ignorance is. Yeah, my gear is not the hottest (had to hock all the good stuff), but try
to notice the skills. Getting people to jam
with a disabled person is almost impossible.
It’s mostly the “can’t drive” thing. So stupid. Great article. Great work Jay Jay and
friends. Good luck to your daughter.

Disclaimer: Method works best if you
already have countless guitars and cases. If
you’re buying a fancy guitar with an OHSC
[original hardshell case], leave the guitar
with a good mate for a week and sneak the
case in as described and repeat process.
Just thought I’d let the cat out of the
bag on this one.

In our March Stomp School column we
mistakenly said the MXR Custom Comp
is “an example of the handwired reissue
MXR pedals Dunlop is building in its
Custom Shop.” The pedal is neither hand-wired nor a reissue. The picture should
have been of an MXR ’ 76 Vintage Dyna
Comp reissue. Sorry for the confusion!
