Mine,” #4 “November Rain,” and #5
“Comfortably Numb” in Guitarist

What manual?
I always read the
manual first—I may not
understand it, but I read
it. This has saved me from
many mishaps ... so far.
Usually I assemble
a team of scientists
to help me.
—Ben Bielsmith, Trevor Bajus, and James
Finch, responding on Facebook to our
question of whether you read the manual
on a new piece of gear before digging in.
You forgot to mention Kevin Bacon and his band “The
Bacon Brothers.” But I guess since they are actually
GOOD, they would not fit into this article. I thoroughly
enjoy them. I can’t say as much about the Shat,
his confidence notwithstanding.

26 PREMIER GUITAR MAY 2011
I had a VIP lesson with Paul Gilbert, but this
column looks like he’s also sitting next to
you showing the licks and the technique and
having fun at the same time! Thanks Paul
Gilbert and Premier Guitar staff. Guitarists all
over the world seek for the bus leacher and
return the gear to the dear!

Shred Your Enthusiasm, April 2011.
I could retire from all the gear I
have casually dumped over the
years. The ’ 71 Strat that sold at
the flea market for $20 comes to
mind . . . made up for it a couple
years later when I got a ’ 68 LP
Goldtop for $100 from a stoned
guy. Still have it.

“What Was I Thinking?” Tuning Up, April 2011.
