1. Mikael Åkerfeldt, frontman for Swedish prog-metal group Opeth, turned heads with his signature SE model as the band closed out the Saturday show. 2. A few limited-edition electrics were
introduced at Experience PRS. This is the “Stripped” 58 in an Eriza Verde finish. It has a maple
top with a mahogany back and neck, 57/08 pickups, a 2-piece bridge, and Phase III locking
tuners. Orders were only being accepted for this guitar until October 14, 2011. 3. Based on the
Studio model, the Swamp Ash Studio features 57/07 Narrowfield pickups in the middle and neck
positions, with a 57/08 in the bridge. The swamp-ash body has a bolt-on, figured-maple neck
with bird inlays. Orders were only being accepted until October 14, 2011. 4. PRS also expanded
its acoustic offerings with the new SE Angelus models. Both the Standard and Custom have solid
spruce tops. The SE Angelus Standard has a solid mahogany back, laminated mahogany sides,
and rosewood fretboard and bridge, while the Custom features a solid rosewood back, laminated
rosewood sides, and ebony fretboard and bridge. 5. Davy Knowles is shown here with “Ellie,”
his #1 guitar—which was previously Paul Smith’s personal guitar. Knowles smiled as he told the
crowd he “nicked it” from Smith. Ellie was a prototype made when the company first began work
on the limited-edition Paul’s 28 and Private Stock McCarty “Violin” guitars. 6. Robert Lee Coleman, former guitarist for Percy Sledge and James Brown, was presented with a Hollowbody II by
Paul Smith. It was the first guitar that had ever been given to Coleman, and he asked Smith to
sign it to commemorate the occasion. 7. A perennial favorite among the Experience PRS crowd,
Texas guitar slinger David Grissom played an afternoon set with his signature DGT guitar. 8. A
few attendees were invited to jam with the PRS band during Friday night’s show. Ben Greenspun,
16, jammed on a blues progression with an SC 58 plugged into a PRS MDT amp.
