The Legacy 3’s circuitry combines the
best elements of Vai’s previous amps, in
a compact 100w chassis. The Legacy 3
is rich with smooth and warm harmonics on the clean and 2 drive channels.
Channel 3 adds a gain switch that is a
warmer high-gain setting that responds
well to both humbuckers and single coil
pickups. The master volume does not
change the gain level of each preamp.
Each channel’s gain settings are maintained when the master volume is turned
down. The variable boost is accessible
from any channel for solos or to help boost
lower output pickups when switching guitars
in a live setting. The amp is driven by 12AX7
preamp tubes and EL34 power tubes. 2 effect
in/out loops offer connection to outboard effects
as well as the ability to patch into a 2nd Legacy
3 head’s power amp for true stereo amplification.
MIDI is also offered for channel switching, reverb
assignment, boost assignment and internal LED
color assignment.
